Obama Didn’t Expect 2012 Social Agenda

President Obama is surprised that the contraception provision under his health-care law has become such as prominent issue in the 2012 election. "We always knew this election would be about competing economic plans--whether we get to build on our progress or see it taken away," he said in an email to potential funders. "But we had no idea we'd also be up against a social agenda that would roll back decades of progress, particularly for women's health." Obama and fellow Democrats are trying to reclaim the social issues challenged by Republicans in order to win over key demographic groups such as women.
