NYC to Meet Gay Wedding Demand

A few gay couples may have to go to Brooklyn to marry on Sunday, but New York City expects to meet demand for weddings this Sunday when same-sex marriage becomes legal in the state. Worried that the clerk's office would be overwhelmed, the city held a lottery for 764 slots. A total of 864 couples applied, and the city allowed them all to marry—though 74 couples hoping to wed in Manhattan will have to go to another borough because of strained resources. City officials say couples hoping to marry Sunday who didn't enter the lottery are unlikely to be accommodated.
