NTSB: Truck Hit by GOP Train Was on Tracks Despite Safety Gates
The garbage truck that was struck by an oncoming Amtrak train with dozens of Republican members of Congress on their way to a GOP retreat in late January entered the Virginia railroad crossing after the safety gates were down, according to National Transportation Safety Board’s preliminary report issued Wednesday. Witnesses and the train camera documented the truck inside the crossing after the safety gates had come down. No “probable cause” for the accident has yet been determined. The Jan. 31 crash killed one trash-company employee and injured several others.
