New Republic: Be Wary of Occupy Wall Street

It looks like we can add liberal agenda-setting political magazine the New Republic to the list of Occupy Wall Street skeptics. In a house editorial, the magazine derides the movement as "radical" in its anti-capitalist fervor and occasionally "creepy" in its execution, specifically citing a practice the protesters use called "the human microphone." At the end of the day, American liberals need to ask themselves "whether the protesters will help or hurt the cause of liberalism." And given the movement's extreme rhetoric, troubling group-think, and unappealing public image, TNR editors are leaning toward "hurt."
