New Cockroach Breed Invades NYC

Move over bedbugs. There’s a new menacing insect in town: a never-before-seen type of cold weather-loving cockroach. And they’ve conveniently picked one of New York City’s top tourist destinations to call home: The Highline. But don’t cancel your trip to the Big Apple just yet. There is some good news: "Because this species is very similar to cockroach species that already exist in the urban environment," insect biologist Dominic Evangelista said, "they likely will compete with each other for space and for food." This should have population numbers looking more like those of a small town than a big city. But did these unwanted visitors even get here in the first place you ask? Scientists believe they probably snuck in the soil of the imported plants that adorn the newly-renovated attraction. Very sneaky critters indeed.
