Nearly 50 Georgia Prison Guards Arrested

About four dozen Georgia prison guards were arrested Thursday morning on drug and bribery charges, officials said. The investigation was reportedly part of a larger effort to crack down on corruption and contraband cellphones that were facilitating outside crimes. Five of the suspected guards are members of a team that had been working specifically to rid prisons of such items. Eight federal indictments outlining the charges were unsealed recently, revealing that the investigation involved at least six state prisons, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
