NC Must Redraw Gerrymandered Districts

The Supreme Court declined late Friday to stay a lower court ruling ordering North Carolina to redraw congressional districts formed in what a panel of judges said amounted to racial gerrymandering. The North Carolina legislature, which is controlled by Republians, as it was when the congressional map in question was made, must now follow a contingency plan that was approved on Friday prior to the Supreme Court's decision. Democrats, however, say that the new districting map is hyperpartisan and still disenfranchises black voters.
