A Syrian driver working for NBC News in Baghouz, eastern Syria was killed when an explosive device detonated inside a house used as both the Syrian Democratic Forces command post and a media center for international journalists, according to the Associated Press. A source with the SDF said the whole area was “full of all kinds of explosives” after U.S.-backed forces announced they had captured the last ISIS stronghold in Syria on Saturday. NBC News president, Noah Oppenheim, said in a statement that their team escaped unharmed. He expressed “deepest sympathies” for the family of the driver. “We are still gathering information from today’s events, and are in touch with the driver’s family to support them however we can,” the NBC statement said.
