NBA Hires 1st Female Assistant Coach

The San Antonio Spurs have hired Becky Hammon as assistant coach, making her the first woman to join an NBA coaching staff. Hammon is currently in her 16th season with the WNBA but will retire this year to join the NBA. (She also ranks seventh for most points scored in WNBA history.) Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich said in a statement, “Having observed her working with our team this past season, I’m confident her basketball IQ, work ethic and interpersonal skills will be a great benefit to the Spurs.”
