NATO Chief Warns Trump Against ‘Going It Alone’

Jens Stoltenberg, the secretary-general of NATO, warned in an op-ed published Sunday that President-elect Donald Trump should not “go it alone” on global challenges. Trump has in the past suggested he would pull back from the U.S.’s commitment to NATO if other countries did not commit enough money. “We face the greatest challenges to our security in a generation,” Stoltenberg wrote in The Observer. “This is no time to question the value of the partnership between Europe and the United States.” He called for “strong American leadership” and asked that European nations “shoulder their fair share of the burden.”
