Murdoch Pressured to Ditch TV Deal

The phone-hacking scandal may cost Rupert Murdoch much more than just the most profitable paper in Britain, News of the World, which closed on Sunday: British regulators are reviewing News Corp.’s takeover of British Sky Broadcasting, which was approved earlier this year. Britain’s Culture secretary, Jeremy Hunt, has asked regulators whether they should reconsider the deal. Specifically, his requests include reviewing whether they still trust News Corp.’s assurances in January that the network would remain independent, and whether News Corp. remains a “fit and proper” owner. And Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg is the most senior official yet to publicly urge Murdoch to drop the deal.
