Mother Impaled at U.S. Border in Front of Two Young Children

A migrant woman was impaled by pieces of rebar in front of her two young children after trying to climb a fence Friday night at the U.S.-Mexico border. Authorities say the woman fell onto rebar that pierced the side of her body, and now she is currently being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The rebar is being used to replace decades-old fencing. According to Border Patrol agent Tekae Michael, the woman is 26 years old and from Guatemala. Her children, ages three and five, were unhurt in the incident but checked into a hospital as a precaution, then returned to Border Patrol custody. According to The San Diego Union-Tribune the woman says she is not part of the migrant caravan. “Entering our country illegally, particularly over our walls, is not only dangerous, but also very foolish,” said San Diego’s Chief Border Patrol Agent Rodney Scott.
