Mother Angelica, Media Mogul, Dies

Mother Mary Angelica, the Roman Catholic nun who founded a Catholic television empire, died Easter Sunday at the age of 92. Mother Angelica, as she was known to viewers, founded her television ministry, Eternal Word Television Network, in a monastery garage with just $200—it went on to spread to reach more than 258 million households. The nonprofit broadcaster reported total revenue of $46 million in 2013, of which $45.4 million came from donations. “Mother has always, and will always, personify EWTN,” EWTN Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael P. Warsaw said in a news release late Sunday. “In the face of sickness and long-suffering trials, Mother’s example of joy and prayerful perseverance exemplified the Franciscan spirit she held so dear. We thank God for Mother Angelica and for the gift of her extraordinary life.”
