Moscow Braces for Massive Protest

Russian authorities have relented on their violent repression of election protests Saturday. Up to 30,000 protesters are expected to gather in Moscow to challenge the results of last Sunday’s primary election. Authorities apparently are attempting to avoid violence by permitting an organized protest. While the opposition is accusing Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party of vote rigging, election authorities have officially declared the party’s parliamentary win legitimate.
