Moon Is 60M Years Older Than We Thought

The man in the moon looks pretty good for his age. New research suggests the moon is actually 60 million years older than we previously thought it was. Researchers at the University of Lorraine in Nancy, France, smashed ancient quartz crystals to access remnants of the paleoatmosphere to help determine the age of the moon. The latest evidence now suggests the moon is anywhere from 2.7 billion to 3.4 billion years old. This also adds to the belief that the moon was created when Theia, an object the size of Mars, smashed into Earth and dust from the crash coalesced into the moon.
