Monk Accused of Stabbing Fellow Monk

A Buddhist monk at an East Oakland monastery has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after stabbing a fellow monk in the face last week. Phen Sokphanna is accused of using two kitchen knives to slash the face of the monastery’s head monk, 66-year-old Mahamonirath Pinn. Sokphanna, who was new to the monastery, fled but was found and arrested Thursday in Castro Valley. Pinn is being treated at a local hospital.
