Mike Pence: ‘I Don’t Understand’ Basis of Michelle Obama’s Trump Speech

So far, Donald Trump has avoided taking the bait and going after the most beloved figure in American politics, first lady Michelle Obama, after she spent 20 minutes Thursday tearing down his candidacy in a speech that did not mention his name once. Apparently Mike Pence didn’t get the memo.

On Friday’s CBS This Morning, co-host Norah O’Donnell asked Trump’s running mate to respond to Michelle Obama, who said in her speech of Trump’s 2005 boasts about groping women, “This wasn’t ‘locker-room banter.’ This was a powerful individual speaking freely and openly about sexually predatory behavior.” Pence prefaced his answer by saying he has a lot of “respect” for the first lady, but in his next breath said, “I don’t understand the basis of her claim.” Despite the new slate of allegations from women, Pence described Trump’s claims as “regrettable talk” with “no actions.” He also teased new “evidence” that would be released by the end of the day Friday that “calls into question these latest allegations.”
