Migrants Reroute to Croatia to Reach EU

Officials said Wednesday the first wave of migrants seeking a new route into the European Union have reached Serbia’s border with Croatia. Croatian police said those who cross the border will be bused to registration centers. Refugees and migrants turned to Croatia after Hungary implemented new border restrictions and closed its border with Serbia. Hungary declared a state of emergency Tuesday and deployed hundreds of police to arrest anyone attempting to breach the border fence. Hungarian police said Wednesday they had detained 367 migrants who illegally tried to enter. A record 9,380 migrants poured into Hungary just before the border was sealed Monday.
