    ‘LOST AND ALONE’

Michelle Obama: I Felt I Had Failed When I Suffered a Miscarriage

    Reuters

Michelle Obama has said she felt “lost and alone” after suffering a miscarriage 20 years ago. In an interview with Good Morning America ahead of the publication of her memoir Becoming, the former first lady opened up about her miscarriage and said: “I felt like I failed because I didn’t know how common miscarriages were because we don’t talk about them. We sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we’re broken.” She added: “That’s one of the reasons why I think it’s important to talk to young mothers about the fact that miscarriages happen.” She also told ABC News that her daughters, Sasha and Malia, were conceived using in-vitro fertilization treatment. “I realized that as I was 34 and 35... we had to do IVF.” Sasha and Malia Obama are now now 17 and 20.
