Miami Dolphins to Suspend, Fine Kneeling Players

The Miami Dolphins plan to fine or suspend players who kneel during the national anthem, according to a copy of a new, nine-page “discipline document” obtained Thursday by the Associated Press. In the document, protesting the anthem is categorized as “conduct detrimental to the club,” which could result in a “paid or unpaid suspension, a fine, or both,” AP reports. The move comes after the NFL decided in May that it would fine teams if their players did not stand during the anthem, although AP notes that the NFL’s policy did not offer guidelines for how teams should punish individual players. As of this report, no internal anthem policies of any teams have been made public. Neither the NFL nor the Dolphins responded to AP’s request for comment.
