Megamind Runs Over Unstoppable

Apparently, the runaway-train action film Unstoppable didn’t live up to its title as DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind took the Hollywood box-office crown this weekend, grossing $30.1 million. The superhero comedy, featuring the voices of Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt, dropped just 35 percent in its second weekend to hold on to the top spot, and has earned a total of $89.8 million domestically. Meanwhile, Unstoppable, starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine, had a so-so debut weekend with $23.5 million. It was followed by the Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis vehicle Due Date, which fell 52 percent in its second weekend due to mixed reviews and poor word of mouth with $15.5 million, and the low-budget alien-invasion flick Skyline, which made just $11.7 million in its opening weekend. Morning Glory, the newsroom-set romantic comedy starring Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford, and Diane Keaton, floundered with just $9.6 milllion in its debut weekend, good for fifth place.
