Massive Storms Leave at Least 19 Dead

Severe thunderstorms and tornados left at least 19 dead and displaced thousands in the Southeastern U.S. on Monday. Two tornadoes tore through Mississippi, killing four people on Sunday, and three more fatalities were reported due to storm-related incidents in Kentucky. Meanwhile, Atlanta and Tennessee are both struggling with massive flooding; a dozen casualties have been reported in Tennessee alone, which was pummeled with 20 inches of rain, in some areas, leaving some Nashville homes submerged in water. Aid workers have shipped in 12,000 sandbags, and the American Red Cross is reporting that around 800 people have been taken in by 20 shelters in Tennessee. The National Weather Service predicts thunderstorms and heavy rain to continue in some areas through Monday afternoon.
