Marine's Wife Found Dead in Mine Shaft

A Marine’s wife who was reported missing in June was found dead, buried 140 feet down in a mine a shaft near Joshua Tree National Park in California. Police announced on Monday that the body of Erin Corwin, 19, was discovered after she has been missing since June. Her former neighbor, Cpl. Christopher Brandon Lee, with whom she is believed to have had an affair, was arrested on Sunday in Anchorage. The police have 48 hours to file charges against him. Lee reportedly planned to take Corwin hunting on the day she disappeared. San Bernadino County Sheriff John McMahon said, “We certainly believed in the beginning her disappearance was suspicious.” Authorities said on Monday they are trying to determine if Corwin was pregnant at the time. She was expected to hike through Joshua Tree when her mother was to visit for Corwin’s 20th birthday on July 15.
