A 19-year-old U.S. Marine who was shot in the head while on leave in Los Angeles has died, police said Tuesday. Lance Cpl. Carlos Segovia Lopez died of his injuries at a hospital on Monday night, after being on life support since Friday. He was found unconscious in his vehicle in South Los Angeles on Friday night. He was reportedly visiting friends and family while on leave from Camp Pendleton. The LAPD said on Monday that Lopez had not been wearing his uniform at the time he was killed, and that at least one assailant had pulled up beside his vehicle and opened fire. No suspects have been identified yet, and no motive is known.
