Marijuana Use Doubles Among Americans over Past 12 Years

The number of American adults who say they use marijuana more than doubled over the past 12 years, rising to 9.5 percent in 2013 from 4.1 percent in 2001. The increase occurred just as the general populace began to view marijuana in a more favorable light, and as several states began to legalize possession of small amounts of the drug.
