Man Dies After Raising $100K for ALS

A man died hours after helping to raise over $100,000 for the ALS ice bucket challenge. Corey Griffin, 27, was a friend of Pete Frantes, the man whose struggle with ALS has helped make the ice bucket challenge go viral. Griffin was in Nantucket helping to raise funds for ALS research Friday night. He called his father, who said Griffin “was the happiest guy in the world,” and “told me he was in paradise.” He went diving early Saturday morning at 2:00 a.m. He floated to the surface, but then sank and didn't come up again. An off-duty lifeguard who happened to be near by tried to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead at 3:00 a.m. His friend Anthony Aiello said “he lived life to the fullest and everybody loved him. And every time he walked into a room, he put a smile on everybody’s face.”
