Longtime ‘Today’ Director Dropped

Since slipping in the ratings, NBC has been trying to shake things up at Today. The company’s latest move is to drop longtime director Joe Michaels, who has worked on the show since 1989. A replacement hasn’t yet been named, but Michaels will be moving on to the role of senior director, where he will oversee a redesign of the Today set. Executive Producer Don Nash said in a memo last Friday that NBC is “looking at every aspect of the show—tweaking where the show needs tweaking, overhauling where the show needs overhauling.”
