Leno: 'It Was Unfair for Me'

Jay Leno wants America to know that he isn’t only feeling sorry for himself: “I felt really bad for Conan,” he told Oprah Winfrey on Thursday. “I think it was unfair. But it was unfair for me.” He also told Oprah that Conan’s low ratings on The Tonight Show were “destructive to the franchise.” Leno said he never wanted to give up The Tonight Show, even when he said he would in 2004. Also not his fault: the failure of his 10 p.m. show. "The unusual thing was that [the other networks] actually boycotted us," Leno said. "It was a calculated effort to keep their guests off our show. [It made things] more difficult."
