Lawyer Quits NYPD Chokehold Lawsuit

There’s a new lawyer representing the family of Eric Garner in the $75 million lawsuit against New York City, the NYPD, and six police officers. Garner died after being placed in a chokehold by New York police. Attorney Sanford Rubenstein, who is accused of raping a woman, is withdrawing from the case because he doesn’t want the woman’s allegations to distract from the Garner suit, his law partner Scott Rynecki said. Rynecki said he will replace Rubenstein in the family’s bid to find accountability. Rubenstein has not been arrested or charged, and denies any criminal conduct. Garner was stopped by police on Staten Island on July 17 on suspicion of selling loose, untaxed cigarettes.
