At around 8 p.m. on Monday, a gunman strolled into the LAPD's West Traffic Division in Los Angeles's Mid-City neighborhood and began shooting. An officer on the scene was shot seven times but managed to return fire and hit the gunman with the help of a female officer. The wounded officer is in stable condition and in "good spirits." His name has not been released, but he is a seven-year veteran; the other officer has been with the police for four years, the department says. The suspect is in critical condition, undergoing surgery. No motive or identity for the gunman has been released.
