Lady Gaga Causes Grammy Changes?

First, she overtakes President Obama on Facebook and now she’s causing the Grammys to alter their requirements? Lady Gaga’s exclusion from the Best New Artist category at the Grammy Awards this year has led the Recording Academy to alter its requirements regarding eligibility for next year. Though the “Alejandro” singer was clearly the most popular new voice on the music scene in 2009, she was ineligible for the Best New Artist category because her debut hit single “Just Dance” received a nod in 2008. According to the rules up until this point, previous Grammy nominees cannot receive Best New Artist nominations. Recording Academy President Neil Portnow announced Wednesday, "There will be some changes so that particular situation won't repeat itself." The new requirements state that previous Grammy nominees are now eligible for the Best New Artist category, as long as the artist has not released an entire album and doesn't win the preceding award.
