Krugman: Eurocrisis Doesn’t Prove Conservatives Right
Apparently Paul Krugman has been reading the Wall Street Journal lately. A couple days after the right-leaning Journal heralded Europe’s “day of reckoning for the welfare state,” the liberal New York Times economist has a message for gloating conservatives: You wish! The countries that are struggling the most aren’t necessarily the ones with the most generous social programs: the exceptionally liberal welfare state of Sweeden, for instance, is a “star performer” in the region. “Beware of ideologues who are trying to hijack the European crisis on behalf of their agendas,” Krugman cautions.
