Kim Threatens Strike Against South Korea

New North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, seen as quite a joke by the world since taking over after his father’s death, might be trying a bit too hard to look like a menacing dictator. In a statement issued Sunday during a visit to military units in the country’s south, Kim told his troops to launch a “powerful retaliatory strike” if provoked by South Korea. The threat comes a day before the United States and the South are scheduled to mount a joint military exercise meant to deter North Korean aggression.
