    Khmer Rouge Leaders Found Guilty

    Damir Sagolj/Reuters

Decades after terrorizing Cambodia in the 1970s, the two most senior surviving leaders of the Khmer Rouge were found guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced to life in prison on Thursday. Over 1.7 million people died under the Khmer Rouge between 1975 and 1979. The judgments against Nuon Chea, 88, and Khieu Samphan, 83, came from a joint tribunal of the Cambodian government and the U.N. It had been criticized for being way too late as well as only addressing a few of the Khmer Rouge’s crimes.
