Jury Convicts Smart’s Kidnapper

A jury in Utah has convicted Brian David Mitchell, the man who abducted Elizabeth Smart from her bedroom when she was 14 in 2002, of kidnapping. Mitchell kept her in a polygamous marriage and raped her for nine months before she was rescued; his trial, however, has been delayed for years after he was found mentally incompetent and a judge refused to make him take involuntary medications. The current jury rejected his insanity plea, however; he could face up to life in prison.
