Judges Order Redrawing of Gerrymandered North Carolina Districts

Federal judges on Tuesday ordered that North Carolina’s congressional districts be redrawn, concluding that the GOP crafted maps amount to gerrymandering. One of the judges said that state officials drew a map with the “intent to subordinate the interests of non-Republican voters and entrench Republican control” of the state’s delegation. The current map was redrawn after judges ruled in 2016 that constituents’ race was improperly used as a factor in the previous version, which was also drawn up by Republicans.
