Actor Johnny Depp has reached a settlement with his former managers, avoiding a trial that was set to begin next month. According to Variety, Depp brought a lawsuit against his former managers early last year, accusing them of “spending millions of dollars without his permission” and seeking $25 million in damages. His managers at the Management Group then filed a countersuit, making public Depp’s millions in expenses on things like “wine, luxury homes, household staff, art, private jets, [and] security” to show the actor was responsible for his own financial woes. “The lawsuit taken out against The Management Group—and the subsequent settlement—is a further demonstration that Johnny is determined to take firm action to protect his personal and artistic reputation in the interests of his family and his career,” a spokesperson for Depp said in a statement. The settlement comes after Depp’s former business manager reportedly told the actor that he had to sell “major assets, such as his château on the French Riviera” to keep afloat.
