Joe Biden: Trump ‘Has Emboldened White Supremacists’

Former Vice President Joe Biden went after President Donald Trump in the wake of his response to the Charlottesville violence, writing in an op-ed that the president “has emboldened white supremacists.” Trump has come under fire from Democrats and Republicans for saying there were “good people” on both sides of the protests in Charlottesville, where a group of neo-Nazis and white supremacists fueled deadly violence. “If it wasn’t clear before, it’s clear now: We are living through a battle for the soul of this nation,” Biden wrote in The Atlantic, without mentioning Trump by name. “Today we have an American president who has publicly proclaimed a moral equivalency between neo-Nazis and Klansmen and those who would oppose their venom and hate.” Biden wrote that Trump has “contempt” for the Constitution, and that his “willingness to divide this nation knows no bounds.”
