NOT A GOOD INCREASE

Jobless Claims Rise

The labor market got slightly weaker last week. The Labor Department reported that first-time unemployment claims rose to 365,000 from 341,000 the prior week. The less-volatile four-week average rose to 360,750. Thanks to the improving job market and the expiration of expanded unemployment benefits, there are 5.61 million Americans receiving unemployment benefits—that’s down from 7.49 million a year ago.
