Jay-Z Shot Brother in Memoir Decoded

This was not the news most people were expected to come out of Jay-Z’s memoir, Jay-Z Decoded. The rapper, now 40, said at the age of 12, he shot his brother, Eric. Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, said guns were easy to get a hold of in the Marcy Projects in Brooklyn where he was raised. The Grammy-winning artist said he was angry at his brother, a crack addict, for stealing a ring. “I thought my life was over. I thought I would go to jail forever,” Jay-Z said. His brother survived and did not press charges. Jay-Z also revealed he later was involved in other shoot-outs, and although he was shot at three times, he was never hit.
