Japan to Scrap Damaged Reactors

Tokyo Electric Power, operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, said Wednesday that they have no choice but to scrap the plant’s four damaged reactors and consult with local citizens about the future of the plant’s two functional reactors. Meanwhile, Tepco’s president was hospitalized for hypertension Wednesday—but he may soon not be in charge, as the Japanese government is considering nationalizing the nuclear plant. The Japanese government may also have to limit electricity use by major companies over the summer due to the power shortage caused by the tsunami.
