Italy to Count Drug Sales in GDP

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Italy will now include prostitution and illegal drug sales in calculations for its gross domestic product this year. The change, which will also be applied retroactively, is going into effect to comply with European deficit to GDP ratio requirements. Italy's current GDP of $2.13 trillion is two percent lower than in 2001 when adjusted for inflation. In addition to the more salacious additions, R&D will no longer be classified as an intermediate cost, and will now count toward GDP.
