Italian Mafia Kingpin in Custody in Uruguay After Two Decades on the Lam

Convicted drug kingpin and prominent Italian Mafioso Rocco Morabito was arrested in Uruguay after two decades on the lam, the Uruguayan interior ministry announced Tuesday. Morabito, part of the Calabrian Mafia, has been a fugitive since 1994. He was convicted in absentia for organized criminal activities and drug trafficking and sentenced to 30 years in prison for allegedly shipping drugs into Italy. His arrest was the result of “months of international cooperation and intelligence activity,” Italian police said.
