Israel Keeps Chomsky Out

Noam Chomsky, the outspoken liberal scholar, was denied entry to the West Bank by Israeli immigration officials Sunday. The MIT linguist had planned to give a lecture at Birzeit University. His Palestinian host for the talk called Chomsky’s denial “a fascist action, amounting to suppression of freedom of expression.” An Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post the whole thing was a “misunderstanding,” adding that the fierce critic of Israel was not on any blacklist prohibiting individuals from coming to the country.
