ISIS Advances in Face of U.S. Airstrikes

Despite a new round of U.S.-led airstrikes on Wednesday, ISIS continued to advance on Kobani, Syria on the border with Turkey. Kurdish official Assi Abdulla said the airstrikes have not stopped ISIS from strangling the city on all sides. While Turkey’s President Erdogan also said airstrikes will not halt ISIS, he is refusing to let Kurdish fighters come through the country to help. The city has been overtaken with explosive violence, including a car bombing and gun battles. The advance on Kobani renews concerns that airstrikes are not sufficient for combating ISIS. “We still have thousands of civilians inside Kobani who might be massacred if ISIS takes the city,” said Abdullah.
