Iraqi Security Frees Hostages Held in Catholic Church

An hours-long standoff in a Baghdad Catholic church came to an end when Iraqi security forces raided the building. At least seven hostages were killed, and an additional 20 people were wounded. Eight suspects were arrested. The gunmen took the hostages after attacking the Baghdad Stock Market, where they detonated two car bombs and exchanged fire with Iraqi security forces. They demanded the Iraqi government release prisoners in exchange for the Christian hostages. The U.S. military says it advised the Iraqi command teams and provided intelligence from a drone aircraft.
