Iran’s Ayatollah: ‘We Will Attack’

In the biggest threat to come from Iran yet, the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said that “we will attack” if the U.S. or Israel attempts military intervention over the country’s nuclear program. During a New Year speech broadcast on live television Tuesday, Khamenei denied having nuclear weapons and vowed not to build them, but said Iran will absolutely retaliate “in the face of aggression from enemies, whether from America or the Zionist regime ...” He added that the U.S. is “making a grave mistake” if they think threatening to impose sanctions “will destroy the Iranian nation.” Earlier this month, Khamenei praised Obama’s remark that “loose talk” of war against Iran was dangerous, but also warned that any further talk of sanctions would backfire.
