Tehran is denying reports that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s motorcade was attacked with a grenade. Reports said Ahmadinejad was riding from the airport to a stadium in Hamedan to give a speech when an improvised bomb exploded and hurt several people. Reuters said that one person was detained but Ahmadinejad was unharmed. But an Iranian news agency reports that the explosion was far from the motorcade. Al Arabiya, a news channel based in Dubai, says the explosion was a firecracker, though earlier this week reported that Ahmadinejad told a conference that he was the target of an Israeli assassination plot.
