Letters written by Iranian prisoners accuse authorities of handing out condoms to prisoners and encouraging rape as a way to punish jailed political activists. "In various cells inside the prison, rape has become a common act and acceptable," one activist wrote on opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi’s website. Political activists are routinely locked up beside the most dangerous criminals. The revelation comes from letters by 26 political activists that were smuggled out of prison. They accuse government officials of many illegal acts, including sexual assault.
