Indonesia’s government says a Lion Air passenger jet has crashed into the sea with 189 passengers and crew aboard. Flight JT-610 took off from Jakarta for Pangkal Pinang and lost contact with ground control just a few minutes later. Photos posted on Twitter of items collected from the crash site included bags and parts of aircraft fuselage, and Indonesian TV broadcast pictures of a debris field and fuel slick. According to Flightradar24, the plane, a Boeing 737 MAX 8, was less than three months old. Reuters reported at least 23 government officials were on board when the aircraft went down in 90-foot-deep waters off Jakarta.
